Skinship – Intimate Encounters

„Touch is never pure or innocent“

Producing art often means to create intimate encounters. Encounters between the light and the eye, the text and the imagination, sound and shivers, the smell and the memory, the screen and the skin, between the artist and its collaborators, between the performer and the audience. Different Media find very different ways to touch, to cross the skin, invade bodies, to irritate thinking and to produce affects and emotions. These intimate encounters can be soothing, caring, stimulating, but also manipulating and brutal. How can we work with moments of intimacy in the fictional realities we are creating? How can we level intensities? What is a consensual way of looking at someone, of being together in the spaces we share? How can we deal with the impossibility of a touch? How can we develop an awareness for the contradictory needs of immunization and sensitization within our work?

In the Workshop „Skinship – Intimate Encounters“ a first glance, a casual touch, a IG Profile, a kinky chat, an unexpected confession, a digital service will be the starting point for our research. In the timeframe of a week, through readings, physical exercises, fieldwork and writings, we will research gestures and settings of intimacy, as well as their commercialization. Bye the end of the week every student will develop its own fictional intimate service, in which intensities between the performer and the audience can be negotiated.

About Rahel Gloria

Rahel Gloria, based in Berlin, is a dramaturg, performer and researcher and together with Magalena Emmerig, Belle Santos and Yana Thönnes founding member of the performance group THE AGENCY (www.postpragmaticsolutions.com). Rahel is a scholarship holder at the Academy for Theater and Digitality in Dortmund, where she is conducting research on the topic “Mixed feelings on demand, services of digital intimacy“.
