ViZ Laboratory for Visual Culture invites filmmaker and visual artist Marina Gioti for an artist talk delving into her past, recent and in-process work. Gioti will screen samples from a variety of projects. Marina Gioti’s work has been screened and exhibited worldwide at museums and film festivals, including Berlinale and Toronto. She has participated in exhibitions and biennials including, most recently, Documenta 14 (2017), where her debut feature film, The Invisible Hands, was screened. Cinema being at the core of her interdisciplinary practice, Gioti explores cinematic narrative techniques and aesthetics across media through her videos, installations, and media art works. She has a keen interest in found objects, stories, and histories, often forgotten or parallel to official accounts. An important part of her interests, expressed largely through her media art practice, is situated at the intersection of art, science, and the environment. Το ViZ Laboratory for Visual Culture φιλοξενεί την κινηματογραφίστρια και εικαστικό Μαρίνα Γιώτη για μια ομιλία πάνω σε παλιότερα, πρόσφατα και υπό επεξεργασία πρότζεκτ της. Η Γιώτη θα παρουσιάσει δείγματα από διαφορετικούς σταθμούς της δουλειάς της. Το έργο της Γιώτη έχει παρουσιαστεί διεθνώς σε μουσεία και κινηματογραφικά φεστιβάλ όπως του Βερολίνου και του Τορόντο. Στις πρόσφατες συμμετοχές της περιλαμβάνεται η Documenta 14 (2017), όπου παρουσίασε την πρώτη της μεγάλου μήκους ταινία, The Invisible Hands. Με τον κινηματογράφο ως πυρήνα της πρακτικής της, η Γιώτη διερευνά θέματα κινηματογραφικής αφήγησης, τεχνικής και αισθητικής μέσα από βίντεο, εγκαταστάσεις και έργα media art. Την ενδιαφέρουν τα προϋπάρχοντα αντικείμενα, αφηγήσεις και ιστορίες συχνά ξεχασμένες ή παράλληλες προς τις επίσημες εκδοχές. Μεγάλο μέρος των ενδιαφερόντων της, που εκφράζεται κυρίως μέσω media art, αφορά το σημείο συνάντησης της τέχνης, της επιστήμης και του περιβάλλοντος.
